There are conger eels you might encounter when diving, they can grow quite big and give a very nasty bite, but you would need to be waving your hand in front of it's face to provoke it.

Hi Faheem,
There are dangerous creatures, though there are precautions you can take, a full wetsuit is good defense against most stings, and most of them are rare to see.
Portuguese man of war (rare, but potentially fatal)
Lions Mane Jellyfish (rare, painful sting)
Weaverfish - Passive, stings when trod on
Snakelocks Anemone - Allergic Reaction similar to a nettle sting if touched.
The best rule of thumb is to look but don't touch. I've been diving brighton for a few yrs with no problems.

Are there any dangerous types of fish/sea cretures in brighton.
PS:i've been there before but never been diving and want to learn.

It's easy to tack diagonally along the current towards shore, but can be unpleasant if you aren't expecting it. We've ridden it down to the west pier for fun. hope that helps.

It's best dived on a slack tide, so aim to be on the wreck exactly 1 hour before High/Low. As the tidal currents start to run on the tide (East to West on a High, and West to East on a Low) The outgoing tide can be particularly strong on a Spring High tide, and could sweep you towards the west pier if you aren't a strong swimmer, it's particularly strong halfway along the pier where it's shallow.

As for the tides, low tides are the easiest, with the highest point of the wreck almost clearing the water on the lowest springs, but still allowing between 3 and 5 metres to dive in. This means that it's easy to free dive/snorkel. Low tide also means better light penetration too, so you can see things in their true colours on a good day.

Buying new gear is the best option...
Cylinder of air lasts about 45 mins to an hour depending on depth.
Refills cost £4
Full Diving gear new costs between £700 and £1500 depending on what you buy.
Training to safely dive unsupervised costs about £250
