This is a music video / tribute to Elton John's "Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes" from the album Songs From the West Coast. This is my favourite song from the album and sadly it wasn't released as a single so I've been meaning to make a video to it for years. I chose the clips based on what Elton John has said about the lyrics and then added clips of Freddie Mercury, Rudolf Nureyev and Ryan White as well.

  • Well done! Thanks for this wonderful tune and vid, it's a keeper.

  • Thanks:)

  • Superb video - very moving. I see below you were meant to go to the Red Piano Show in Helsinki which was cancelled. It was a shame. I was lucky to see it in Manchester on December 20th. It was great, but to be honest, I prefer his regular shows. Nothing beats it when its just Elton and the piano; no big video screen, no inflatable stage props, no gimmicks. I'm going to see him in Ireland on June 6th and in Germany on July 5th, I'm very excited! Hope you get to see Elton in 2009 also. :)

  • Thanks:) Yeah I know what you mean but then again it's not often we get to see him here. The last time he was here he swore it would be his last European tour but he keeps coming back haha:D How great to see him twice on one tour! Have a great time:)

  • Beautiful video... I like so much!!! Very very cool!!! :)

  • Thanks:)

  • such a talented man..I almost got a chance to see his red piano tour in vegas but he left the day we got there...shame..I can't say i've ever heard this song..very nice.and such a moving video..he would be proud as would freddie mercury..such a tragic loss...great job supsi..always a pleasure to watch your vids and always looking forward to see what you'll come up with next..your talent has no bounds

  • I was with Elton at Riley when Ryan was dying. Iworked at Indiana University Hospital. What Elton did for Ryan and his mother was priceless! Elton went to Chicago (3 hours away) after the funeral and became the sober Elton we have today. For every chapter that ends a new chapter begins. Out of tragedy came more beauty and love. We are all recipients of Elton's gifts and I. personally, yhank God for this gift.

  • Great video!

Wonder what would have happened if Reagan had acted differently?

  • Elton, before playing this song in his live concerts, he talks about "a young dancer in New York in 1980 who gets AIDS, and at that time in America the government runned by Ronald Reagen did nothing for people with AIDS". Who was that young dancer?

  • im gay and i love this song. who cars what people think!

  • I love this video. It's very moving.

I love Freddie Mercury and Elton John.

  • Excellent song from a fine album Songs from the West Coast. And now he has a great new album The Union, with Leon Russell, his best since the mid 70s i.m.o, rightly gets 5 stars in Rolling Stone

  • This and Levon are two of my favorite Elton songs. I've had the honor of seeing him live and I love the Freddie Mercury images, this is very well done, bravo.

  • I love the song. I love the video. I love how he honours those who died of AIDS in the past 30 yrs. It makes me cry just listening to this song.

  • Rudolf Nureyev, Freddy Mercury and Ryan White. All killed by AZT.
