In March of 2011, 10 undergraduate engineering societies got together and built a light switch over 1790km in length. The Rube Goldberg machine started in Thunder Bay at Lakehead University and ended at the CN Tower.
Through a series of cell phone and internet connections, each school's Rube Goldberg machine sent the signal on to the next school's machine.
Schools involved were:
Lakehead University
Carleton University
University of Ontario Institute of Technology
McMaster University
University of Western Ontario
Conestoga College
University of Waterloo
University of Guelph
University of Toronto
Ryerson University
Thank you to The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and the CN Tower for all their support.
