The Government of Lao PDR, the United Nations and Development Partners have signed a Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Compact in support of the full achievement of the MDGs in Laos by 2015. It also calls for an additional goal to eliminate all UXOs from priority agricultural land over the next ten years, the so called MDG 9.
The MDG Compact was signed in Vientiane on 20 October 2010, during the Round Table Meeting.
The Round Table Meeting is organized every three years, as part of the Round Table Process (RTP). Led by the Government of Lao PDR, the RTP promotes in-depth dialogue with development partners to improve the effectiveness of international assistance in line with the Vientiane Declaration. The aim is to support what matters most for the country's development; improving the health and education of Lao people, expanding their income opportunities and contributing to sustainable development.
In this video, a young Laotian student, Ms. Chindaphone Saignaleuth, guides us through the MDGs in Lao PDR, showing the achievements and challenges.
