The East Village Opera Company-two classically trained singers, string quartet, electric bass, guitars, keyboards and drums-reinvents classic arias by Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Bizet, et al, as joyous rock anthems. Every thunderous, thrilling, satire-free performance is driven by "unconventional passion" whose "sheer audacity is exhilarating" (St. Louis Post-Dispatch).
Actually, they are not classically trained. EVOC started as a result of the keyboardist and the tenor having to do La Donna Mobile in a pop version for a movie soundtrack. The beauty of their music is that they are NOT classically trained. I am convinced this is what opera would be had Mozart, Verdi, et al been born today.

I have been a fan of EVOC for about a year. I am impressed and gladdened that there are these young people who can appreciate and share such beautiful music.
