How to do your own head replacements and create your own tool for about 50 cents. Sure there are head comb kits but this is a simple method that will work on most types of drives WITHOUT touching the heads themselves. It is a much easier method than hundreds of others I have tried. This is the best.

  • I have a question. Is this process good for a 880Gb 2.5 drive? I am assuming the 2.5 drive has multiple disk on it.

My drive was making a faint beep sound, then i drop it and now it make a click sound every 2 or 3 seconds

  • @macron74 Yes it will work if you are careful and do the alignment correctly. However, you may need to practice on other drives to get it down so you can do it on a real drive, it generally takes about 5 times before you can get it right on a real drive. Practice. Also you can use a Caliper on the drive before you disassemble it and take measurements so you can reassemble correctly.

  • you took the time to record this, you'd think that you would make sure your hands weren't in the way...

  • @hvactech77 The camera was from outside the cleanroom. But you make a good point, I really do need to shoot from the otherside or device some way of putting the camera in the cleanroom for the shot. This was a real client drive, but if I were just to show this on a regular drive i could do it outside the clean room.

  • hi! i've got a question: you used a small piece of overhead projector plastic/tranparency to seperate the top head. why is that so? why did you not use the same tool?

    thx!

  • @bluewards I could use the same tool except i would have to push down on it since it needs pressure to hold the head down. Plus it was easier for the camera with the plastic.

  • WRONG. You DONT need a clean room. The drive will work perfectly once repaired for more than long enough to remove all your data.
