  • Dear god I would have paid $500 to see this show

  • this song is pure townes; one of his best. he does an amazing job of telling a story and making you empathize with the character even though you only know her for 3 minutes, more so than many movies can achieve in 2 hours.

  • that's my man

  • Thank you for posting this, lapislazuli42.

  • Fantastic...thanks for posting. My favourite version is Steve Earle's on 'Train a comin'...really brings tears to my eyes.

  • I'll be 60 in 2 months. I've heard 'em all, from Hank to Seeger, and all the corporate chic clones. I know the classic poets well. But this is the first time I ever shed a tear the first time I heard a song.

  • I lost a wife after 25 years. My kids don't come around anymore. I've got pain problems in my back. I can't lay down and I can't stand up, but I got a better life than this guy.

  • @willong1000 If you haven't already purchased the album Flyin' Shoes . . . do it now . . . it is as perfect an album as was ever created . . . also get A Gentle Evening With Townes Van Zandt . . . brilliant live performances . . . These live clips are perfect . . . I would have paid $10,000 to have been there if I had it . . .

  • Hey there "lapislazuli42",

Thanks to YouTube, I just discovered TVZ less than 2 months ago (and his late friend Blaze Foley, as well). I've since purchased 4 TVZ CD's and 2 of Blaze's. I've watched virtually everything of Townes' posted here. I must thank you for posting the "Private Concert" videos. I feel Townes' singing those 13 songs reflects his most heartfelt performances, his emotional peak. While the bell clarity of his youthful voice had vanished, so to, had the rushed delivery.

  • @what1111000 I'd pay $3500 and I got $30 bucks and that's $30 more than usual and no bank account. Queensbridge boy, what. j/k

  • @aritherock I agree. And I think its what he doesn't say that makes it so relatable. He's not detailing the character, talking about the color of her hair or some such thing... he's singing about situations.

  • @what1111000 we both know youd pay 3500
