Perhaps your yarn tension is too tight? I have had problems with this when the yarn doesn't pull out of the yarn ball easy enough. This can be adjusted by turning those white knobs on the yarn mast. Not sure if I can describe how I was taught how to adjust them but I will try.

When the yarn is loaded in the color changer, it should bend the metal tension mast down about half way. They are the 2 or 4 shaped thin wire with a loop on the front - they are the highest part of your machine. Grab the yarn going into your color changer and pull it down, then let go. Now, what do look for? Your yarn should now be bending the metal tension mast (I think that is what they are called) half-bent? If the metal is bent lower than half-way you need to loosen the tension and if the metal holder is up more than half-way, then tighten the tension.
