In the video I called this the "Morgan Stanley" shelter and said it was the 27th of November, when it was the 28th. Must have been tired. The shelter is in New York on the Appalachian Trail, 3.3 miles west of Rte 55, as you are going south on the Trail, and 8.7 miles from where the AT crosses the Taconic State Parkway, to the south and west of the shelter. It was clean when I was there and is a solid shelter with good water supply from a nearby pump (water needs to be purified!).

  • What part of New Jersey are you from?

  • I'm from NY - Croton on Hudson.

  • Route 55 - in Virginia? Morgan/Stanley? This must be why these investment bankers get such outrageous bonuses and corporate welfare - just look what they call their corporate headquarters! Joe Pesci, indeed. Not quiet the spokesperson one would expect from the corrupt banking giants. On the other hand, Pesci does play the part of a mobster quite often.

  • JOe Pesci indeed. I should have his money. the shelter is in New York on the AT.

  • when i stayed at this shelter.. there were 4 inches of snow on the ground, it was really cold.. i cooked inside the shelter and 10 miles later i saw a sign that said " HIGH BEAR POPULATION BY MORGAN STEWART SHELTER". Not something you want to read after you slept with your food smelling like bacon. The day i started the hike .. i followed what seem to be a wolf or a very large coyote all the way to the shelter(i could see his prints in the snow). it howled until 12 am or so. great trip!

  • apparently, morgan stewart to you is morgan stanley.

  • how cool, so what was it like spending the night by yourself there?

    thanks for sharing

  • I did lot's of Hiking in Japan and they had shelters like this all threw there mountains. What I found really cool is they had a log book in the shelters and folks would write about their day, wildlife, weather and emergencies also. Nice video
