Not high, but higher. I tried with a hunting rifle with a mounted scope to hit a target on about 200m and it isn`t that simple. Of course it is not a military sniper rifle but you get the feeling. Google for "bullet trajectory". It isn`t same as the unaccurate fire. It is a normal phenomenon due to gravity and air resistance.
You shouldn't have to aim high at 200ms.... That isn't very far, a good rifle can shoot accurate without any adjustment for wind/distance to around 500ms when you're firing 800m+ shots is when you have to really pay attention to such. Good rifles can fire accurate to well over 1000m with a very skilled sniper.
Rainbox Six was quite realistic, very close to SWAT 4. But still was not like the Operation Flashpoint or Armed Assault which both had single shot death and bullet trajectory. So if you wanted to shoot from 200m with your sniper rifle you had to aim higher. Nice touch, I liked it. Since OPF 2 is more like Call of Duty which never was realistic but more like a FPS, I kinda miss real military tactical FPS these days. So GRAW 2 is the only think (besides ARMA 2) I can think of. Wish there were more
I don't care about realism much anyone definity for what happened to games like Rainbow Six and Call of Duty, once felt realistic to their own right, now both are butchered. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 great customization options, some what fun gameplay, but really it isn't Rainbow anymore I remember the original Rainbow Six, it was 10 times harder than Vegas 2.
It was probably too difficult for you. With your "generic shooter" termin you are a way off. It is a "realistic" tactical military game with almost perfect bullet trajectory. Almost no other game like it. The only one I can think and is similar to GRAW is Arma 2 that involves open space combat with realistic damage model (1 shot and you`re dead). GRAW for consoles is simplified and therefore lame IMAO.
It isn't simplifed... you die in 1 hit I do often, it isn't simplifed either, oddly the FPS version on PC is what I thought simplifed, I tried it before I tried the console version and decided, the console version seemed more enjoyable. Though I did hate the stupid cover system... cover system is over rated on all games, I like actually using cover and pearing the gun around the corner manually to fire.. lol
