Umm, Paine wasn't an atheist. He was a Deist. So many of his writings have Biblical references and speak of God. Why would an atheist write like that? Even a simple look at his wikipedia page would have shown you the truth.

how can a person be "more atheist." You either believe in God, or you don't. It shouldn't be complicated. He certainly wasn't an evangelical christian, but Paine was a Deist. He believed as much as a revolutionary like himself could.

@mattrmc19 You do realize Thomas Paine was extremely against the Bible, he wrote a whole book decapitating it.
-
@mattrmc19 He said people around the world condemned him for preaching atheism, doubt they had wikipedia at the time.

Thomas Paine:
“ It has been the error of the schools to teach astronomy, and all the other sciences, and subjects of natural philosophy, as accomplishments only; whereas they should be taught theologically, or with reference to the Being who is the author of them: for all the principles of science are of divine origin. Man cannot make, or invent, or contrive principles: he can only discover them; and he ought to look through the discovery to the Author.”

@borntobelegend: the United States is a reluctant empire, we love all the wealth and power we get but don't much care for the responsibilities to Humanity which is mostly too ignorant to notice the difference, to be honest.

And in what sense is the American Empire different
Oh my, I just checked the time LambLion guy, it's the 21st century.

“ The evil that has resulted from the error of the schools, in teaching natural philosophy as an accomplishment only, has been that of generating in the pupils a species of atheism. Instead of looking through the works of creation to the Creator himself, they stop short, and employ the knowledge they acquire to create doubts of his existence. They labour with studied ingenuity to ascribe..., and jump over all the rest by saying, that matter is eternal.”: The Existence of God--1810 Thomas Paine

@LambLion777: You do realize that Atheism means someone who ignores theology
More than 90 percent of Christians don't know their own theology. yet they all speak like they are experts especially we Americans. Thanks to the liberal minded humanists you can now say what you like without consulting the Church first and not be killed or butchered for your non-Theist talk.

@LambLion777: Believe what you like but the whole basis of your Church is anti Human. It treats People like Garbage and Science with contempt and has been an endless cause of suffering and torment. It is beyond me why anyone would want to look fellow Humans in the eye an extol such a betrayal, certainly not Thomas Paine.
