Peak Moment 55: Karen Biondo and Joe Walling take us on a tour of their incredible backyard farm on Vashon Island, Washington. Pet the goats, see chickens dusting in divots, and crunch a carrot. See how Karen's colorful paintbrush combined with Joe's creativity with salvaged materials and hot compost are creating playful beauty and plentiful harvests.

  • make sure you wear sun screen when you are on Vanshun island. It shines real hard there and you get cancer. Were you guys wearing it?

  • Thanks for the reminder for everybody spending a lot of time outdoors-- to remember to wear sunscreen, especially midday in summer. I think we did!

  • Get a big straw hat.

    Sunscreen causes cancer.

    Don't *constantly* wear sunglasses.

    Eyes/skin = entrances for Vitamin-D.

  • Thanks for thinking of their well being! We asked them to take off their hats for the videotaping so we all could see their faces.

  • So awesome.

To be clear. I'm not in agreement with the concept of "peak oil", but for any national emergency or monetary collapse, and to stay out of the governments pocket(FEMA) and stay self reliant, you guys are so great for making these videos.

It's my dream to do these things here in Louisville Kentucky if I can.

    THANK YOU!!!!

  • I think "resilience" is a key idea -- the more options one has, the better. Katrina taught us not to depend on the government. We'll need local currencies, etc. to help us exchange locally. What is it about Peak Oil that you don't agree with?

  • Nice video,old :) but nice :)

  • very informative and enjoyable... i've been mowing my lawn with a non-gasoline reel push mower since July 2008, when i moved into my current home, and only once had to resort to a gas mower. all vegetable and fruit kitchen waste gets taken into the countryside (I live in the middle of cornfields in a very small town in Iowa). being a dedicated recycler & only very occasional eater of red meat and chicken, i put a garbage sack or two curbside about once every two months.

  • Very good . Much like Honey Dew CA 5*****

  • A Great Path to going Green....What a Wonderful educational way of life...Thanks

  • very natural, i love it coz its very informative.

  • K 'n Jo are two of the loveliest people I've ever seen on Peak Mo. Thanks for sharing!

  • Now that's a lot of chickens!

  • Modern "Dairy-Products" are the leading cause of all heart disease, MAKING cholesterols build up in arteries because *homogenization* reduces the molecules in milk so small that they *scar* artery walls, as do all *hydrogenated* oils(another man-made process).

Additionally, cholesterol is *good* for the body, if you don't want to dry up like a prune with bad joint problems, shriveled skin and internal organ malfunctions.
