A standard signal increases cut-through traffic in the residential neighborhood. If the HAWK signal is replaced with a traffic signal, it would be green all the time for the busy street, and only change to red when a ped or a bike pushes the button. In place of the stop signs, there would have to be sensors in the street that would also cause the light to change when a vehicle drove up. Car drivers would figure out that this is a quicker way to get across the busy street or to turn left.
