Many people in the city want to be more connected to their food by knowing where it came from. There are options such as, going to a farmers market, or growing your own produce. Most people don't have the space to have a full garden, or the money to buy farmers market produce consistently. A windowfarm is an easy way to grow your own produce in a small space, at a reasonable cost. The Windowfarm Organization in New York City (windowfarms.org) provides a kit that includes all of the materials needed to
successfully build a windowfarm in your home. It's slightly cheaper to source your own materials, but we found that it is more efficient, less time consuming, and less risk of malfunction. The resource center in Chicago will provide plastic bottles, but there is also the option of buying those.

  • would it be possible to do away with the pump and put a reservoir water bottle on top of the assembly. and if that will result in "overwatering" the top garden bottle, provide separate small tubes to the various levels. have not tried yet but planning to.

  • I wonder about the effect the Kilz has on the plants. It's a chemical...does that seep through and leech into the water?

  • super helpful! keep uploading videos!
