  • Deke Slayton followed an Air Force-like flight rotation schedule, based on the premise of "Any astronaut, any mission". He choice of commanders was loosly based on their rotation in the Gemini flights. Neil Armstrong - the Gemini 8 commander - happened to be next in line when it came time to assign the commander of Apollo 11. Slayton assigned commanders of later flights - such as Lovell, Young and Scott - to be crew members in earlier Apollo flights.

  • the best scene in the whole series...

  • A great moment in this series.

  • This meeting really did take place, with the only difference being that it took place AFTER the Apollo 1 fire, as opposed to this one which took place before and shows a very much alive Grissom, White, and Chaffee.
