Are they... talking?

I don't know why I didn't notice the wierd noice earlier. It makes some sence now... maybe the sword is telling him where to look for the mononoke?


Frist scene is from Ayakashi: Bakeneko arc first ep.

Second scene is from the beginning of first ep. of Mononoke.

Third scene is from Mononoke's second ep.

He does the same thing at the beginning of Bakeneko before entering the place. He might be talking to the sword or doing some sort of protection charm/spell.

Maybe he's just talking to himself, like he's just taking in the situation and surroundings? Who knows... He can do whatever he wants and I'll still love him. xD

There's a lot of ancient beliefs regarding magic and doorways and the little quirks these cause to magical entities and those attuned with witchcraft or even priesthood.

There was an ancient belief that demons and certain spirits and faeries couldn't enter someone else's home without being allowed to first (what they suffered if they entered without permission could range from a curse of some kind, to wounds/pain and instant death or banishment), for example.

It wouldn't be a far guess to say he's chanting a charm/spell/prayer before entering, either for protection or some other magic-related reason, being the powerful sorcere-*ahem*...medicine seller he is.

@MadelinAro exactly! and especially in the episode with the girl who is trapped in a dead end maraige and ends up trying to marry a mononoke. Notice who the mononoke resembles despite the mask, and the dialogue deffinately suggests it :-)
