I know David Bowie. I was there the night he wrote this song. Joe the Lion is Fee Waybill (Quay Lewd) of the Tubes. He was singing the song "Golden Boy" and spitting beer on the crowd. Then the Tubes played "White punks on Dope" Therefore the lyrics go "Joe the Lion (fee Waybill) went to the bar, a couple of drinks on the house and he said "I'll tell you who you are if you nail me to my car". This song is about me meeting David Bowie. I am not gay or Bi-sexual. David Bowie is.

Reeves gets a great sound out of that Parker.
So many of Bowie and Eno's songs sound like science fiction short stories. Really intriguing and beguiling.

yeah. some of the lyrics during this period feel really cyberpunky (on Scary Monsters and 1.Outside, too). this song in particular is partially about performance artist Chris Burden, who crucified himself on a VW Beetle. "take you to my car.."
