  • Glad your BF issues are resolved. As for going back into the Navy, if that's not where your heart is any more, then don't go back. Absolutely follow your dreams and go where your heart tells you to go. It's the only way to achieve happiness in this life. Besides, if you don't follow your heart, it might get lost ;-P

  • The Navy will be there until 34 which is a looong ways ahead. I will go follow that opportunity and if it doesn't wok out join the Navy

  • Jared, well I think it is always important to follow your dreams! I'm glad to hear tha you have a new boyfriend! I can't wait to hear some of the other things t your intrested in doing. i guess on a personal level i was wondering what your new boyfriend is like. As an older gay man (34) what's your advice on finding a good guy? Your friend Bobby :)

  • Hi there, I just want to say that I highly commend you! I think you should follow your dreams. You seem like such a great guy. I posted your "my DADT story" on my facebook page, because i feel everyone should hear it. best of luck to you my friend,

    Brian

  • I think that whenever a door is slammed in your face, you're handed a key that can take you to somewhere better. I'd suggest that you forget about the navy and go where your heart tells you to go. But at the end of the day that's just my opinion, you do what makes you happy. But remember you're still young, you can rejoin the navy later if you have a change of heart.

  • Looks like the US lost a very articulate and dedicated man. Good luck with your future career.

  • Hang in there man! I survived 7 years in the Navy (1993-99) -- I joined in 1993 right when DADT went into effect and recruiters stopped asking about sexual orientation on the enlistment contract. I realized I didn't want to make the military a career and got out after 7 years. Haven't looked back. Went back to college on their dime (G.I. Bill). Sorry to hear that you were a casualty of that failed policy. Seems like your headed in the right direction now. Take care shipmate!

  • Hi Jared. Screw the Navy! You shouldn't try to go back where you are not wanted. No matter what happens, it will be decades before gays are truly accepted in the military. Look at how long it took blacks to be accepted. Women are still fighting for acceptance. Your sacrifice and courage, along with that of so many others, has helped to inch our dinosaur of a military toward equality. You are a hero as much as anyone who has ever served! Your work in the Navy is done - on to the next adventure!

  • Hey Jared. Glad to see you posting again, man. Like many people, I'd love to see you re-enlist just to show those bastards what a real man is capable of, but I understand you have to follow your heart. It sounds like you're going to focus your blog on more general issues and I'm looking forward to what you have to say . You are a very intelligent young man and if you set your mind to it, you can accomplish great things. -Heath
