As mentioned earlier Intel will not only talk about Intel Parallel Studio and multi-core programming at their Stand E5/E6. Developers who stop by and answer four out of six questions correctly can win a wonderful and quite heavy laptop sponsored by HP. The exact model name is HP Compaq 6830s and its a really nice piece of hardware. Highlights are the 17 inch non-glossy display, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the rest of its configuration.
You may ask yourself: What do I have to know in order to win this great price? Well, there are six questions regarding Intel software development technologies which can be answered quite easily with the right hints:
Question 1: The Intel Threading Building Blocks Library was designed to make expressing parallelism much easier by abstracting away details. What is the main mechanism used to achieve this? The possible answer has something to do with tasks and threads, you know!
Question 2: Which Intel Tool is specialized in finding potential deadlocks in your code? There are four answers to pick from, but only one is correct: Intel VTune Analyzer, Intel Thread Checker, Intel Thread Profiler or Intel Deadlock Finder. A little hint: „Deadlock Finder is a only a fantasy product!
Question 3: What is the biggest challenge in memory allocation? There are two right answers to this question. One has to do with some global things and the second is not a true one ...
Question 4: The new Intel C++ Compiler release 11 will support lambda functions. What is the main benefit in using lambda functions? The right answers are quite compelling. The first one has to do with anonymous things and the second answer with an powerful Intel product.
Question 5: What is the best way to avoid data races? Guess what: The appropriate answer is quite minimalist!
Question 6: What is the best place to find technical information on multi-core programming and contribute to the community? My favorite answer (Starbucks) is not the correct one. But Im sure that this a no-brainer!
BTW: So far there are more than three hundred raffle cards which have been filled out by guys who are really keen on a new laptop and on Intel software technologies, of course!
Update: The first lucky guy took his HP laptop at home right after the Intel tech session. So watch some raffle pictures, see the drawing ceremony of this fabulous price and listen to the winner talking about his brand new notebook.
