A long-time contributor to the co-operative sector within Ontario, dedicating over 36 years to co-operatives, received the Co-operative Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ontario Co-operative Association (On Co-op) in 2004. Bill Demerling, who began working with co-ops in 1966 in the small town of Dundalk, Ontario, received the award during On Co-ops day-long Gala and Spirit Awards on Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 at Country Heritage Park, Milton. Bill had spent 19 years as the manager of the Waterloo County Supplies Co-operative, now known as the Waterloo Oxford Co-operative, and faced many challenges to bring the organization back to profitability. Upon hearing that he was nominated for this award, Demerling was humbled and honoured as his peers and colleagues had recognized the efforts he had put forward within the co-operative sector.
