TV antennas may appear like relics from the last century, but a growing number of viewers are finding them to be indispensable in getting the best picture from their HDTVs.
High-definition tv (HDTV) is video that has resolution substantially higher than that of traditional tv systems.
The switch to digital TV broadcasting has eliminated the most annoying picture distortions snow & ghosting that made analog off-air reception so hit-or-miss. With digital TV signals (both standard-definition & high-definition), you'll either see a crisp, ghost-free picture or no picture at all.
n December 2005 the European Union decided to cease all analog audio & analog video tv transmissions by 2012 & switch all terrestrial tv broadcasting to digital.
In North America a specification laid out by the ATSC has become the standard for digital terrestrial tv. In the United States the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) set the final deadline for the switchoff of analog service for June 12, 2009. All tv receivers must now include a digital tuner. In Canada, the Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), has set August 31, 2011 as the date that over-the-air analog transmission service will cease in most parts of the country except in Northern Canada.
I use an HDTV antenna to get my TV channels... i miss verizon fios a little bit but then again why pay so much money just to watch the channels i get for free over the airwaves :)
It takes a little effort to get the antenna set up and aimed but in the end i saved a good $100 a month i think it was... around that
