This was taken at New Smyrna Beach, August 21, 2008. If you can make this full screen you will see the surfers better. But seeing them out in the water shows just how big the waves were. They were approximately 10-12 feet over normal size. They had been surfing for about an hour, but quit and said in the last 15 minutes, the wind speed had about doubled, and they could no longer stand on their boards, or the wind would catch the front causing them to wipe out.

  • lol! townies get out of here! I hate when people are amazed and shocked when they see a surfer in hurricane swell or storms. Florida barely gets waves that are big, its not like its extremely dangerous, some places get consistent 10 to 15 foot swell every other day. not a big deal.

  • Love those days where the paddle out is a breeze and you can get shacked!

  • yo for real thats like 4-6ft

  • Fantastic footage , Thanks! Hey Pt Judith & Narragansett Beach RI are favorite spots especially after those storms . Too dangerous during! Click on & watch : Chad O'Brien Surfing Memorial Competition & more.
