@Illuminatus1978 To me they always sounded like a comedy band. They just didn't have that dangerous aggressive edge that MC5 and the Stooges had.
-
i love the dictators.
-
That is a very accurate comparison. MC5 maybe first punk band? Watch American Ruse on youtube. Handsome Dicks brother sings lead. (just kidding)
-
The Dictators were ahead of their time by 1.5 years. Then the Ramone came along when punk started to generate a larger underground and the Ramones brought it out.
The Dictators are by FAR the best punk band musically, they actually know how to play their instruments and their sense of humor and in your face lyrics made you listen to what they were singing. It's unfortunate they didn't get the fame, but if they did perhaps their albums would have been different, softer due to the record companies

@RamonePinhead handsome dick manitoba that is :)

could you PLEASE upload "Steppin out"?
thanx!

@tylertitancycle that is also very true. almsot every british punk band started after they saw the pistols live
-
@66644538 i absolutely agree. But at the same time, it really depends who you are in terms of what makes them legendary. The pistols already had a huge influence on punk rock before sid came into the picture and before they really started to exploit the media. To bands like the Buzzcocks and Clash, it was seeing the pistols live that influenced them...not seeing them stroll down the river in a boat or curse on television.
-
in any case the sex pistols were most defientely NOT a fake band in any way shape or form. and people saying they were created to promote mclarens clothing store ?? you ppl are beyond stupid. the ambitions behidn the sex pistols were waaay bigger than THAT are kidding ? lmao they were created to make hit records, millions of dollars and change rock n' roll that was always the plan not sell fucking t-shirts
-
@tylertitancycle yea people defintely overplay his role he had no part in their sound or lyrics and they all pretty much did whatever they wanted. the way he marketed them was genious though and the fact that they imploded so quickly only serbed to bolster their repuation. if they had broken up 20 years later or were still around today they wouldnt have become as big as legends as theyve become
ah, punk's very beginning here. most underappreciated band ever?
