Maestro Jose Felipe was one of the great garroteros of Venezuela, He was also a labor organizer and guerilla fighter who fought for the health and dignity of the oppressed. He was a very friendly and wise man who had a nice little farm in the hills above El Tocuyo. I lived on his farm learning garrote larense. Maestro Jose Felipe and his wife were magnificent hosts and made me feel very welcome. On Sunday afternoons he would hold a small class when other garroteros could enjoy a friendly game

Para la información el dia 04 de junio 2010 falleció el Gran Maestro Jose Felipe Alvarado(93) en su casa cerca de la ciudad de El Tocuyo. Paz a sus restos.
