Byron Pitts, CBS national correspondent, delivered the Annual Carolyn Freeze Baynes Memorial Lecture in Social Justice in April 2008. Mr. Pitts describes his childhood struggle with illiteracy, stuttering, and a lack of resources in his low income Pittsburgh neighborhood. He talks about the people who believed in him and gave him a helping hand along the way. The lecture was sponsored by the ECU College of Human Ecology, the ECU Carolyn Freeze Baynes Institute for Social Justice, and the ECU Division of Student Life.
