U.S. Iraq war resister Jeremy Hinzman's appeal to Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper

Jeremy Hinzman and his entire family face deportation by the Harper government in Canada. If returned to the U.S., Jeremy faces incarceration, a court martial, up to 5 years in a military prison, and a felony conviction that is a criminal record.

Harper's government plans to deport Hinzman and his family in spite of a motion that passed in the House of Commons (Canada's Parliament) on June 3rd that calls for an end to the deportations and a provision that will allow Iraq war resisters to stay in Canada.

  • To Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Immigration Minister Diane Finley; If this government ignores the Canadian constitution, ignores the resolutions of the Canadian Parliament, ignores the recommendations of the Canadian Senate, ignores the decisions of the United Nations, ignores the expressed wishes of the Canadian people, to whom IS this government accountable? To George W. Bush, evidently. And that is unacceptable. Let Hinzman and all American military refugees remain in Canada!
  • War resistors should have the right to follow their conscience and to stay in Canada.

  • what is with the comment thing, sorry if i posted the same thing like 10 times, not trying to be a dick or anything. But to finish what i was saying i think i have a good idea why he didn't want to go to Iraq, and i don't think it had much to do with the war be unjust. Again this is just my opion he has his and i have mine you heard his and respect him and i am not even going to say what i think mine is. I saw it alot in the young soldiers when i was in. but none of our guys ran off to Canada.

  • Let them stay Harper! You stink'n sack of sh*t!

  • This reminds me of The Sound of Music...you know...at the end how they had to flee Austria because the Nazis wanted Captain von Trapp to report for active duty? Let them stay...

  • respect

  • I do wish all the best for you and yours, but i would like to have this debate further in the future... anyone who has input and would like to talk further, please message... manningm88 or manningm (AT) hotmail (DOT) com

  • First off, I would like to thank you and your family for your service to our respective nations. You have made us all safer for it.

  • Ahhhh.....Bush is no longer part of our reality.....though he might as well be

  • Harper, let the guy stay. Think for yourself and Canad, not that asswipe Bush.

  • Since Teske was just ordered to leave Canada by a judge in Vancouver (albeit a conservative) and whilst parliament is closed, the coalition of Liberal and NDP announced that refuges from militarism, ie Iraq would be allowed to stay in Canada. But the parliament doesn't open until 26th and the damage is done. keywords: Martial law, North American Union
