A protest in Berkeley, California about cuts to home care funding in the state of California. Protestors explained to me that the cuts would result in people who are currently living in their own homes having to move into private-for-profit nursing homes. The cost of staying the those private-for-profit nursing homes would be covered by California tax payers. As a general rules, caring for people in their own homes is cheaper than caring for people in nursing homes, so the budget cuts sound like a poor fiscal move for California tax payers. People who are living at home usually have a better quality life than they do when they are in nursing homes, so this might not result in an improvement in health care for the people impacted.

Anybody interested in voicing concerns about the cuts in home care funding are able to contact Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger @ http://gov.ca.gov/interact#contact

  • @mrquiet2009 Most of my videos now require that comments be approved and that might have made it look like the post did not go through. Each post gave a neat insight into your mother, so I approved both of them.

You care very much about your mother. Thank you for caring about her and for posting comments.

  • @garysdeskcom sorry about the dual message. My computer is having problems, so I wasn't sure if the message got through. My mother is a very independent person and literally thrives on being able o do whatever she wants whenever she wants. This is why, if we can, we are going to take a look at all in-home service options, so that her wishes can be respected.

  • @mrquiet2009 For sure - a home is the best place for people who are not needing high levels of care.

  • @mrquiet2009 I understand your concern. Some people deteriorate very quickly - lose their will to live - when they are placed in a nursing home. My father is in a nursing home. I think with a reasonable level of home care he could still be at home.

  • Cutting in-home to the elderly is bullshit. I have an elderly mother who wishes to spend the remaining years of her life in her own home. I am going to respect these wishes. Part of her spirit of individuality and independence is tied to that need and I do not wish for her to lose that.

  • Cutting In-home support-service is bullshit. I have an elderly mother and have previously worked in nursing homes.Knowing how crappy these places can be, I'm supporting my mother's wishes to live in her own house in her golden years. To not do so would deprive her of her individuality and independence, and I am not willing to do that.
