Cops disrespect Copwatchers 1/18/08 (light version)

Members of Portland Copwatch observed police covering nametags, shining a light in our camcorder, and calling one of us out by name on January 18, 2008 in downtown Portland, OR. We have been monitoring police accountability in Portland since 1992--see http://www.portlandcopwatch.org for more info. The police have a dangerous and thankless job. That said, we citizens have a right to observe the police and to report any abusive activity. I believe the police should be observed at a distance where you are not interfering them. That and to be polite and respectful! No need for the "in your face" stuff.

I love photography and have chased twisters. Perhaps it is time to see what the police are up to? I can imagine their reaction when they see my camera and its big telephoto lens!

well what do you think about cops hiding their identity and trying to intimidate people who want the police to be accountable. I don't know about you but I don't want secret police in america and I don't want the cops to believe they can get away with anything and no one will hold them to a higher standard.

@UncoveringConscious in tn we cant have cop watch but anyone caught filming from any distance a cop you will be arrested and the courts in tn come down hard on you for it.also many people in many tn towns have tried to get a cop watch program started and every time its stopped by police and the judges.tn has a police installed puppet governor and the media is police controlled.so we are really at the mercy of the police and the judges even the ACLU is afraid of the cops.just my opinion
