October 2010 and a chance conversation with another avid flyer led to a 3 man, 500 mile trip to the Hebridean Island of Skye. This led to some absolutely amazing hang-glider/para-glider flying on a spectacular area known as Cuith Raing. It is situated on the largest active land slip in Europe, The Trotternish Ridge.
We were joined by 3 Scottish flyers. We cannot wait to return.
The night skys, clear of any light polution, gave us views of fantastic Star fields.

  • Great footage, I hope to fly there in the near future, weather permitting. You can forget what dramatic landscapes we have here in the UK.

It was good talking to you up at parlick the other day, hope you've had better luck with the weather. Mick.

  • @65mickdx My pleasure Mick. Yes it did improve a little this week with a beautiful flight on Nonts. Made more special by the presence of a Rough Legged Buzzard flying quite close. Shortly after, a herd of twitchers arrived and the Buzzard could be seem playing around the site, hotly pursued by an over-zealous female Kestral. Absolutly magic. After I spoke to you the other day, I flew at Semerwater in cold, miserable conditions. But flyings flying, so quite enjoyed it.

  • wonderful video. can you please identify each musical artist and tune? thanks, edward

  • @linksglfr The first track is by RunRig and is called 'On the Edge'. The next track by 'Abba' and the remaining music is again, RunRig.

  • Excellently presented video Hugh the choice of music was a perfect match to the incredible scenery of Skye, Thanks for posting.

    Regards Phil.

  • @981smithy My pleasure Phil. As you may have gathered from my comments above, I've recently returned from another unbelievable visit to Skye. A feature of the vist were the horrendous wild fires across the sea on the mainland. This actually affected our hang-gliding activities due to them changing the meteorology over the Island.

    Best regards Hugh.

  • @XCBrazil Absolutely my pleasure & thanks for your kind comments. Myself & a group of friends have just returned from Skye & the Quiraing (Round Fold) after a week of mind blowing hang-gliding activities. But the most notable aspect of the visit was the absolutely amazing welcome we received from, often, the unlikeliest people and locals. We have made some good friendships over a # of recent visits.

    Hugh.

  • 35 years ago I was a young fit Royal Marine and that was the last time I visited Skye. I remember that the scenery was amazing but I'd forgotten just how spectacular it is. Thanks for an excellent video and refreshing a few 'old' memories.

  • @dk57gwz Thanks for the quick response Simon. As you can see, the Quiraing is something else.

Two weeks ago, whilst flying there, my self and another flyer reached just under 3000ft above take-off. The views of the whole Island and the outer Hebrideam Islands was absolutely mind bogling.

    Regards, Hugh.

  • Hugh good to meet you today and those photos and videos are excellent!

    Simon
