Allen Eagle Escadrille (Marching Band)

On December 20, 2008, the Allen Eagles played the Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes in the 2008 5A DI State Championship Game at Reliant Stadium.

Allen is now just as famous for their Championship Football team, as they had been the past decade for their Marching Band.

The Allen Eagle "Escadrille", at its largest, had 650+ members (2006).
In 2008, the Marching Band had roughly 600 members, over 500 of which were playing instruments.

After Allen had mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, after being down all game 7-0, it was now 14-7, Allen ahead. With 7 and a half minutes remaining in the game, on a key 3rd down conversion, backed up against their own end zone, the Hurricane offense was as close to the Allen Band as any team could be on the field.

The Allen Band, as they always have, "blasted", pointing their instruments directly at A.J. Highsmith (Hightower's QB) and his offense, just yards away.
As Highsmith was still calling signals and pointing out assignments, the Hightower center snapped the ball, to no-one, even though he believed his quarterback had signaled him to snap it. This forced a fourth down punt, which led to another Allen TD within less than 5 plays later.

The Allen Eagle Band, which has performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, 2006 Rose Parade, and St. Patrick's Day Parade (soon to be twice) has always been considered one of the best "football" bands in the entire southern United States
Their sheer loudness and bliss during the game has caused referees to threaten to throw flags on the actual band for being "too loud" (NO JOKE!) multiple times! They have caused opposing offensive lineman to jump the snap with a false start many times. They have helped Allen's Eagle Stadium be ranked the #2 toughest stadium to play at in DFW. They have even been called "rude and obnoxious" by opposing fans (especially Plano and Plano East fans)!

Whether it is "rude" or "inconsiderate" or not........ if your band had the chance to help in a key moment in the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.........wouldn't you want them too?

  • I suggest you check out DCI Athletes. ESPN did a documentary type thing on Marching Band participants. You'll be shocked at the results since you say it doesn't require as much effort as football.

  • @mygarage95
