As the dark winter nights begin to draw in and the land becomes chilled with penetrating frosts Archaeologist & Historian James Balme returns once again to the history books. Sat next to a roaring fire he is looking for more clues to the ancient landscape that surrounds him and to investigate more evidence our ancestors left behind in the soils of Cheshire.

This film is dedicated to Albert, a great friend who shared the excitement and passion of what James has recovered over the years. Albert spent many a night reading books on the history of the area and absorbing thoughts of what might have been happening some 2000 years ago !!!!

  • Excellent piece of film photography. So much thought and passion goes into your work it makes one realise how important history and archaeology really is!

  • It's been a passion of mine for 35 years. I am convinced that there is a workable TV format here somewhere !!! Maybe a series excavating peoples land and uncovering a lost history !!

  • James, you just need to come up with the right title, if I think of anything I'll let you know.........

  • a great Title could be just the extra inspiration i need ..... Since I filmed my Time Team programme I have been determined to come up with something special ........ making the Time team programme made me realise I could do my own series, many people who have followed my work in the past have always said that they could see a great series somewhere in the future.... I live in hope .....

  • I have always liked history and archaeology but to be honest I never really given it the time that it deserves. And thanks to you my interest has been rekindled. You already have the passion, the determination, the expert knowledge and the artistic skills to inspire many more people. You'll get your series!

  • I will certainly continue to work towards that elusive series ....... many thanks , James

  • There is definately a workable TV format! Excavating peoples land and uncovery lost history. It is certainly a good idea possibly working along the lines of "Who do you think you are" I am sure lots of well known people would be very interested in something like this!

  • Very nice, good work

  • That bronze axe is so cool.

  • Great finds and keep up the work on YouTube!
