Hello and welcome to faaflighttraining
In todays episode we will talk about class c charlie
airspace.
Here we are looking at FT Lauderdale international airport in Florida. KFLL
Here is a view from the air.
Like you can see on the the chart class C is depicted with a solid magenta line.
Here you see one outer circle and one inner circle.
In the outer circle the class c airspace starts at 1200 ft MSL and extends up to 4000 ft MSL
In the inner circle where the primary airport is located the class c airspace starts from the surface up to 4000 FT MSL.
To fly inside a class c airspace you need to have at least a student pilot certificate.
When it comes to equipment to operate inside class c airspace, the minimum list is as follow
a two-way radio, so you can communicate with ATC and get clearance to enter the airspace
A MODE-C transponder so that Air Traffic Controllers can follow where you are, and your altitude on their screens
When it comes to weather minimums for Class C airspace it is as follow
3 Statue Miles Visibility and cloud clearance of 1000 Feet Above
500 FT Below
2000 FT Horizontal
The maximum speed unless authorized by ATC is 200 KTS
