you probably could not make this exact sauce without vodka, but the alcohol will cook off-a lot if you cook it longer then he did.

lol srry I didnt mean to make it sound like it did but ya I dont think a kid could get drunk or even a buzz depending on how much you put in there and how long you cook it.

Correction MOST of the alcohol cooks out but all of it is never cooked out. Believe me I'm culinary school.
