With the door handle removed, you can reach in the door and push the metal tab to open or close the door latch. The new piece replaces the cheap metal piece that hits this tab.
Hard part : after you drill out the old roll pin, get the old piece out by lifting the spring piece. Try opening the back with a screwdriver as shown.
With the spring piece up, slide the new piece in and hook the spring over the lip, install the new sleeve and press it in with hose clamp or slip joint pliers.
