Finally, a video with the actual Locke.
I type in "John Locke" and all I get is LOST.

Jefferson said that Bacon, Locke and Newton were the greatest men to live without exception.
Jefferson was pretty great himself tho.

Nice work girls. You made it actually intresting to listen too. :-)

@Shroommduke No problem. The new book by Mark Levin, "Ameritopia" highlights much of what he says about Natural Law. Others like Sir William Blackstone & Charles de Montesquei also talk about natural law in the same context as Locke. After that, I would read James Wilson's "Lecture on Law" who was a signer of Constitution & an original US Supreme Court Justice. He also talks about natural law & how everything government does must be based on it. But he got it from the 3 guys mentioned before.

@stevandjaz so considering the general social cultural spiritual and political climate... someone who would be seen as a conservative and religious zealot today might have been a flaming liberal back in the 17th century...
our perspective is much different today, these things need to be taken in context.

@bRizzle2009100 Thanks, that was very well said!
I'll have to read his Treatises on Civil Government some day!
-
I really enjoyed this- giving real means for thought... as an early year educator I believe his theories have deep meanings for today thank you
-
@Shroommduke Well John Locke was a Christian theologian and his writings had a vehemently Biblical meaning. His "Two Treatises on Civil Government" have over 1,700 references to the Bible. He even says that any human law must be based on Biblical law and any human law that contradicts Biblical law is null and void. That was the sum of the Law of Nature.

@bRizzle2009100 we are all philosophers and theologians...

Hey look, it's the guy from old school!..,
John Locke was close with “Property,” Jefferson got closer with “pursuit of Happiness,” I found the key to all Life: pursuit of Objectives. We may generalize Jefferson when “Happiness” is viewed as a metaphor of some positive feedback after an accomplished Objective. When using such logic, these Rights become universal to all Life, from bacteria to humans. See my channel video for the proof.

If experience shapes our character, and experience involves what happens to us, then our lives are determined by experience. If, on the other hand, they're determined by reason, then that is what shapes us. The basis of the reason VS experience debate wasn't about which one gives us more freedom. It was meant to explain how we acquire knowledge. Neither of these 2 options has more favorable consequences for freedom than the other. It's a debate about knowledge, not freedom. Otherwise well done.
