Manistra that is so true. She was my mother's favorite gospel singer while I was growning up. I don't think I appreicated her at that time. But now years later and my mother passing on I've found Mahalia music sould comforting. She is one of the best gospel singers !

@mrtheoneandonly83 I'm sorry you misunderstood what I said. I did not write the song, I wrote out the lyrics from watching this video. I sing a lot of Dorsey songs as did Mahalia and I think Dorsey would have been pleased that young singers choose his songs to sing to the glory of GOD...(The One and Only).

@MzLizKent Unless you name is Thomas Dorsey and was born in 1899 and died in 1993 then you're not the writter of this song!

You got great taste Elfeco

In a 1957 interview she was recorded saying that for her, "a song must carry a message...I need it myself before I can translate that to the others." I don't know how you would interpret that but to me that meant a song had to minister to her heart first before she could sing it and bless others. The sheet music for this song has as sung by Mahalia Jackson on it. Watch the documentary, 'The Power and The Glory'. I would like to believe Thomas Dorsey wrote this one with her in mind.
