Phillies legendary announcer Harry Kalas died just hours before his beloved Phillies downed the Washington Nationals Monday.
The Phillies longtime broadcaster Kalas passed out in the broadcast booth just hours before the game. He was rushed to a D.C. hospital where he died around 1:20 p.m.
The Phillies were offered the opportunity to postpone the game but they decided to play in honor of Kalas.
Kalas would have wanted the Phillies to play, said Phillies President and CEO David Montgomery.
A moment of silence was observed on the field in memory of Kalas.
The Phightin Phils played with heavy hearts and hard-hitting bats as they beat the Nationals 9-8 just hours after Kalas died.
The Phillies got six innings of four-run pitching from 46-year-old Jamie Moyer and some big hits from the middle of their lineup to hold off the Nats.
Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino homered for Philadelphia.

The Nats helped the Phils by committing three errors that resulted in three unearned runs.
The Nationals fell to 0-7 -- they are the only club in the majors without a victory.

3 yrs. on now and I still wonder how Harry would have called all the Phillies games since then. I still miss him.
