Hey guys I just wanted to share some of the lessons I learned while running the race.
These lessons are universal and can be applied to any are of your life. But before I go into that I want to take you back to before the finish line.
Im usually the kind of person that gets really nervous right before I do something big lol I don't know if you can relate lol But before the Tulsa Run I was completely calm lol
I remember the night before my girl friend and I went to the hotel to pick up my race packet. Then we came back to the house and just hung out and watched Gladiator , on of my all time favorites lol
Anyway as we were watching I was totally into the movie, I was at ease I was present. And the only time I thought about the race was when someone asked me are you excited lol are you thinking about it lol are you ready lol
It was so crazy that I wasn't thinking about the race I was at peace it was absolutely amazing!
That night as soon as my head hit the pillow I feel asleep lol and then woke up ready to get it done.
Even before the race I was running around talking to different people and still not worried or anything.
I made a video like 10 min before the races started lol and still calm lol haha
I make my way through the crowd and the countdown is on lol
The gun goes off and I take off totally in the zone one with the road =)
At the 5K mark I look down at my watch and it says 19:25 which is actually my current PR since HS lol
At the 5K mark A woman ran past me so I decided to stick with her
I figured she was the 2nd or 3rd place woman and I knew she would run a sub-60 so I stayed with her.
At the 10K mark I hit an all time PR with a time of 39:15 =) I felt amazing I felt strong I was Unstoppable =) I decided to make my move I started the attack Just 5K left... Lets go! So I went!
I was giving it my all and it hurt so bad. The harder I pushed the more it hurt and the more it hurt the harder I pushed. At the 12K mark I heard a voice lol no I wasn't having an out of body experience lol But it was a guy named Phillip one of my coaches! He said Ryan Calm down run with me stop stressing stay with me we are on pace were going to do it come on!
I will never forget that moment! I stayed with him for another 1K and I needed him right at that moment.
I started to fall behind but kept pushing it! I wasn't going to quit I had worked too hard This was mine!
As I approached the last 1K I saw a guy that had started walking
He had his hands on his hips then head and was looking down to the ground. At the same time a guy was running by yelling and screaming at him to get up! DON'T QUIT KEEP GOOING this guy was yelling and screaming at this man lol And what do ya know the guy slapped his hands and started running again it was awesome to see =)
So there I was at the 14K mark just one left to go
I look at my watch and it says 55:50 I had 4 min and 10 seconds to finish this sucker
And I dug deep It hurt so bad but I have never been feeling so much pain and continue to push myself like this before EVER!!! I was getting closer
The road was winding People were cheering They were taking pictures of me right and left saying u can do it! Then I came around the corner and saw the finish it was maybe 200 meters away and I went harder digging in and pushing I heard them call my name "Ryan Celestain" and I crossed the line! My time was 59:50 I DID IT!!!
Guess who was standing there at the finish? Phillip he was waiting for me and I gave him a big hug and thanked him for the help.
I went to the medical tent to get stretched out and my Girlfriend met me there She had a weird look on her face. See she had recorded the race so she didn't know if I had made it or not from where she was standing =) she didn't want to congratulate me and me not have made it so she just smiled awkwardly lol I just gave her a big sweaty hug lol and she knew what had happened lol
