@tanpiltanpil : Bowie's version is atrocious, it just kills a magnificent song. Scott is the only one who could slightly understand what Brel was singing about.

Bowie sounds sleazier and therefore more convincing than this or the Brel version. Bowie sounds like he's been there where the other 'artists' would shit their pants if they had met any of the real sailors!!

La version de Walker est sublime, la version de Bowie est sublime, tout simplement parce que cette chanson de Brel est sublime.
Le reste, c'est du blabla.
Quel intérêt de vouloir les classer comme les jurys bidon de la starac ?
Walker a fait une version "copie conforme" de Brel, Bowie en a fait une version différente, plus Folk, très dépouillée, plus proche de son esthétique personnel (étonnant non ?)
Les deux ont rendu un superbe hommage anglophone au Grand Jacques, et c'est tout ce qui compte.

@legios07 Enfin une personne d'accord avec moi. J'ai toujours trouvé la version de Bowie épouvantable. Celle-ci que je viens de découvrir n'est pas mal mais un peu trop orchestrée à mon goût. Sur ma chaîne, il y a celle de John Denver, dans la même optique folk que Bowie mais lui au moins il chante bien.

Très belle version, même si rien ne vaudra jamais l'originale.
En revanche, la version de David Bowie est une vraie catastrophe.

Scott's interpretation's the next best to the one and only Jacques Brel's ! It's all there, the voice, interpretation, the diction, the raucous, smoky, dirty atmosphere... and I can tell. I'm Flemish.... ;)
