Too much Philosophy

Im with you Tenneral. Just take the ontological argument.
1. God is something than which nothing greater can
be thought.
2. It is greater to exist in reality and in the understanding than just in understanding. 3. Therefore, God exists in reality
Its ridiculous! But apparently philosophy as a tool must still be respected as it is a cornerstone of science, I have been told.

Good video. I'm glad dprjones recommended you. This video kind of reminds me of Robert Anton Wilson's notion that we should not only be agnostic about god, but about everything.

Science discovers.

I don't wish to be pedantic, but you haven't actually said why it is rediculous. This is the very point of philosophy; an emphasis on the 'how' not the 'what'. This does seem a rediculous conclusion to accept but St. Anselm's argument (which is a tad more complex than what you've stated here) was shown to be false by Kant. He said that ''to exist' is not a predicate' in that one can have an empty category. Philosophy does not have to accept any argument, although this is, in fact a great one.

Funny but I felt the same way about this video as you did about that book.

Dirt proves there was life before this planet. Everything that dies turns to dirt. Of all that what is mixed, heated, cooled etc. Turns to everything that is called the universe. Where is sciences theory.

Philosophy in my opinion is there to help weed out the ideas that are impossible while discovering the extents might be if we take a thought or an idea to its end. It is there to make us think and examine what we hold to be true. Rather than to provide answers it is there to provide doubt which may lead to a more correct or better answer. We after all can not say we are 100% right if we have not looked at all that could be wrong with an idea from all perspectives.

I tend to agree about the Epicurean perspective. Just be good and enjoy it all.
Thank you for reminding me why I studied science -- not that I doubted.
If a creator deity existed, then there ought to be incontrovertible evidence. There is no empirical evidence that is not better explained by non-supernatural mechanisms. To me, this explains why the only recourse of theists is to distort or invent facts and to employ backwards logic. Not, of course, that most theists will ever admit to that biblical metaphysics is falsified and apologetics refuted.

It seems to me that you're really taking issue with sophistry here, rather than philosophy.
Philosophy can be intellectually honest, but when it is we don't call it "philosophy", we call it "common sense" - which is what you seem to me to be delivering here. And it's surely what TheoreticalBullshit delivers, n'est pas?
