Chicagoans Spin Fire by the Full Moonlight

The Full Moon Fire Jam - where "fire spinners" perform for free for the masses -- started in Chicago in 2004, with just a few friends at a park on Lake Michigan. Now the jam attracts as many as a thousand spectators when the moon is full. (Sept. 29)

I love that people show up early: singles, couples, families, groups of people; and they picnic while the event space is getting set up. Everyone is welcome and they know it. Lately, I've seen some kids bringing their own little drums or other instruments. I love that this is event brings generations together. The ages of fire spinners, drummers, and audience are wide in range and it doesn't matter because we all have one thing in common; we are all playing. : >

Awesome to see this beautiful community thriving so well. I was a part of Full Moon Jams in 2007 and a little in 2008 and I LOVE THIS community! They are so amazing, full of love and heart, and amazingly responsible about how they conduct themselves.

A completely free, and more importantly, substance free event for the public? This has evolved into something inspiring. If you're in the area definitely check it out!

These are definitely my favorite regularly occurring events. I miss them in the winter and always look forward to next month when the weather is warm. It's a monthly affirmation that you are indeed ALIVE!

I've been going to the jams for two years, and spinning at them for one. It's such a welcoming, community-oriented atmosphere! I was so happy when I was introduced to the tribe, and my desire to share this wonderful art has grown exponentially! =)

I love going to the Full Moon Jams! I started attending a few years ago with my husband who is a fire spinner & yes the crowd was much smaller, but it's neat to seen how it has grown over the years!

I disagree with the 'stoner' comments, it's a very family & community safe event.

I have brought many of my family/friends & love sharing this experience with new people. I'm always amazed at the various styles of fire spinners & the talented drummers (and other instruments) that come and jam.
