Julia "Butterfly" Hill on NBC Dateline, 2-14-99, including the infamous instance of PL President, John Campbell, calling tree-sitters "terrorists" on national television. John Campbell passed away on October 19th, 2008, R.I.P. The tree Julia was sitting in, "Luna," was permanently protected under John Campbell's presidency; quite a turn-around from negotiating with "terrorists," eh?

Actually, Luna was attacked, about one year after the tree was saved, with one cut that went all the way across and about 2/3 of the way through. The cut was discovered by Shunka Wakan, before the next big storm came, and steel braces were attached to the tree to keep it standing. It was an amazing collaboration between Pacific Lumber Co. and environmental groups, and Luna survived the winter storms. Luna is still standing, to this day, and is healing up well from the attack.

Trees give us oxygen, why cut them down when there are obvious alternatives?

We don't need to cut down any trees we could use hemp and get 3x the paper. The only reason we don't use hemp is because of greed.

@HarpEeveeWove They didn't actually cut the tree down, yet it did get cut into. Braces were made to keep the tree standing, and cables were also attached higher up on the tree to stabilize it. You can find photos online by doing a websearch.
