GREETINGS FROM POLAND!

@Notturno81Exactly - this Polka was composed in XIX century in Austria :-)

@Notturno81 That's right! I feel really uneasy when Polish Americans say that polka is a Polish dance. It must be the greatest cultural theft Poles have ever made. Just imagine how Poles would feel if Russians claimed that the polonaise or mazurka are theirs.
They dance very well though.

Actually, this Polka style of dancing is called the 'Chicago Hop' which is more bouncy than a traditional polka . . . They're both a three step, but in the 'Chicago Hop' you use both feet as the first step, like a slight jump almost to begin and the lifting of the leg is exaggerated a bit. This polka is a real work out.

Love it but polka as a dance is actually from the Chech republic:)

My father had danced like this ...boots and all. My doll had the woman's costume, ribbons and all :) All four grandparents were born in Poland!

We're still practicing these steps. So far it's like two elephants in a chicken coop, but in time we'll get there. Going to a Polish Dygus Day Dance tonight. 4/5/10.

My wife and I are dancers. We're learning how to do these steps from this video. We''ve been dancing together since 1983. We do ballroom, swing, and polkas. We go to German and Polish festivals all the time. Great fun. Real dancing, not just jumping up and down.
