Someone asked how fast it could do Aluminium Plate. So I agreed to film it in real time.

You have to remember that this is a hobby machine and designed for light milling and engraving.
It has been built with price in mind and accuracy, not speed.

It still has small cheap stepper motors attached for all these examples and we have done that on purpose, you can go spend £200.00 on bigger motors but you are knocking the price up again and that defeats the object as such.

If you want to Mill thick Aluminium at commercial speeds then I would advise you to go spend a few grand on a commercial machine.

Our machine will do thick aluminium materials, but you have to take your time with it !!!

Here is a video of 6mm aluminium plate being milled out for one of the Stepper Motor Mounts.
150mm/min cutting rate with a 3mm 2-Flute cutter at 1.6mm per depth pass.

Please feel free to check out http://www.cncdudez.co.uk for more info.

  • What type of lubricant are you using at this work?

    Thanks

    Hi

I am using FORCE LUBRICANT CUTTING OIL SPRAY. It's pretty good and a small amount goes a long way.

Stick to using it on metals though as with plastics it creates fractures over time.

  • Cutting tips:

Aluminium machining I advice using alcohol. Less stains/oil and it evaporates. Close to no clogging on the cutting tools when machining soft aluminium alloys.

Plastics I advice using a mild water and dishwashing mix. Gives very good results on certain plastics.
