I did not take off that many bottom leaves. I put it in filtered water with liquid fertilizer. The organic fish fertilizer would be best. Don't use tap water out of the faucet since it contains clorine and all kinds of other nasty things in it. I used rain water that I collected from under a rain gutter.
After about a week I saw roots growing from it. Great success especially from a pineapple top that was starting to rot inside.

i was wondering if you have tried my way out what i do is: just like you did i strip some of the leaves off in-till you don't see any roots, then i put it in a glass of h20 an put it up on the fridge for a week or two in-till i start to see new roots come in!! ill let the new roots grow to about a inch!! the reason for that is the new roots will shoot down faster then the root that are all-ready there! then i plant it an give it a little water this has been 100% effective i have rooted over 10

@MsUniverse01 Thanks for the comment, although Id appreciate you tell the truth. On your profile you say you're all about "love myself, to love others, to find love, to be love" yet you preach hatred. What's wrong sister? want a chat? Email me if you want. Im willing to share my experience in growing plants, but not to be insulted. Im all about love and learning too. Peace.

@RichyJam2011 Yeah! I sat down, observed why people may have been failing at getting them to start, and came up with a way to help everyone get these fun plants to grow! Have a go though.. see how it works for you too :) Good luck!
