it will work i have my old 80gb hard drive and a 250gb external running all my movies and music externals are plug and play no problems and i have an internal 500gb drive in my ps3 you should'nt have any problems

The PS3 hard drive is a 2.5'' notebook hard drive. But I'm not sure if it has some sort of special program on it that will make it not open and let you get files

It means it's 2.5'' in length measure the shortest side of the hdd with a ruler.
