A PLACE TO LIVE (USA) "It's a perfect storm of high land value and low median income. We're in the midst of one of the worst housing crises in modern history." So says talking-head Councilman Eric Garcetti in this documentary about the struggle by queer senior citizens to find housing in Los Angeles. The film follows seven elderly gays and lesbians from the time they first hear about the building of a housing complex for senior LGBT folk in early 2006, through the excruciating wait a year later to hear if they've won the lottery for admittance. As the seniors share their stories of illness, poverty and homophobia, they prove themselves heroes and heroines whose humor and resilience are as inspiring as their hardships are heart piercing.

  • i wish to be in this place... but i am in cebuc ity, philippines...

    love here...

i am a ladyboy from the philippines...

  • Uhh- that was so eye opening. The elder senior citizens truly did pave the way for younger gays like us and it's about time we RESPECT them and honor them and even donate for their betterment. One day, we too will grow old to be them and the importance of paying it forward to "your own kind" starts now. I wish more gays were active in the community...YOUNG gays.

  • Essential viewing for anyone concerned with how low income seniors particularly lesbian or gay seniors find dignity and community in the final years of their lives. Kudos to the subjects for their stories, the activists for not giving up and New Fest for programing. You do not have to be old to want to see this documentary; you do not have to be gay or lesbian to be concerned about the subjects of this film. Deeply moving and deeply empowering.

  • I watched this spectacular documentary a week ago at the London Lesbian Gay Fim Festival. It gives great insight to the real Los Angeles and the real gays and lesbians.Congratulation to Carol for pulling this out.She told me she tried to send it to the Greek Documentary Festival.WRONG!Homophobia still rules in the land of Sappho,Achilles and Socrates ...

25-31 MAY 09 ATHENS INTERNATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL is what you should goo for:)))

  • There are some advantages to being old. The expectations with its accompanying frustrations are gone. You can enjoy each day without the anxiety that plagues young people. If you have pretty good health, it's not so bad. In a snug harbor, it's wonderful.

  • good motivational videi. i like!

  • I saw this film and it's inspiring. So well crafted and it brings a warmness to your heart.

  • Great video. Very important issue!

  • Outstanding. I hope you have/find a distributor - or at least publish dvd. Sundance channel televised "Ten More Good Years"; maybe IFC Channel or HBP will televise your film. HBO backed "Semper Fi" and might have similar interest in your film. Good luck. Keep us posted...
