Almost 90% of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students report being verbally harassed at school because of their sexual orientation. LGBT teens experience homophobic remarks and harassment throughout the school day, creating an atmosphere where they feel disrespected, unwanted and unsafe. Homophobic remarks such as thats so gay are the most commonly heard; these slurs are often unintentional and a common part of teens vernacular. Most do not recognize the consequences, but the casual use of this language often carries over into more overt harassment.
This campaign aims to raise awareness about the prevalence and consequences of anti-LGBT bias and behavior in Americas schools. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce and prevent the use of homophobic language in an effort to create a more positive environment for LGBT teens. The campaign also aims to reach adults, including school personnel and parents; their support of this message is crucial to the success of efforts to change behavior.

These commercials are stupid and annoying. I have gay friends who don't get offended when I say "that's so gay" or something similar and they even use it themselves. It's like if they were to say "that's so straight" I wouldn't be offended. People get way too butt-hurt over everything these days and they need to understand commercials like this aren't going to encourage people to stop saying it but rather will likely encourage them to use it more.
That's so American! In other countries right now people are telling their kids "Now don't be a jerk... no one wants to be an American" and "Don't hit other kids for no reason, you don't want people to think you're an American do you".
I thought the phrase "thats so gay" died in the '90's but I've been noticing a resugence lately, but I had no I dea it had gotten this prevelent.
Unfortunately, I don't think this commercial is going to accomplish anything but to encourage otherwise absent-minded imbiciles who only ever say "that's so gay" out of habit to start going out of their way to intentionaly say it.
And its a little preachy. It makes me want to say it more and I'm sympethetic.
The word "gay" was around for hundreds of years before a certain group of people decided to hijack it. Now they want to get all offended when it's thrown out in a non-threatening manner? There was a time that segments of society that were different were burned at the stake. YOU knock it off!
