I usually use white noise for builds but that is a really cool sound, I'm definately gonna try that. One thing I like to do is add tremolo to the white noise and increase the depth as it builds, it gives a really cool effect. Adding chorus is also cool then you can increase the rate as it builds. Just some ideas, keep up the tutorials :)
