Terrenaissance is about Trinbagonian World/Acoustic
fusion. Our music is a mix of the indigenous and the international; a synthesis of art, pop and folk.
Terrenaissance taps into the many musical genres of Trinidad and Tobago as well as diverse vocal styles and languages from around the globe.
The members of Terrenaissance are:
Avianne Callender -- rhythm guitar, vocals
Christopher Castagne -- tenor pan, vocals, cuatro
Joel Castagne -- lead guitar, mandolin, pan pipes
Chanzo Greenidge -- berimbau, vocals
Roger Ti -- vocals, percussion
Trevor Ramesh Samaroo -- vocals, bansuri
Harsh Sikumar -- tabla, naal
Terrenaissance was founded in 2006 by Avianne Callender. The name 'Terrenaissance' is a combination of two French words ('terre', meaning earth/land and 'renaissance', meaning rebirth) which signify the rebirth of world music. The band is presently based in St. Augustine.
Fusion music has been pioneered locally by musicians such as Ras Shorty I, André Tanker, Mungal Patasar, Clive Zanda and others. Terrenaissance takes the process further as the first band to compose and perform wholly acoustic fusion and to experiment with various languages, oral art forms and vocal styles.
The band features voice, rhythm and lead guitar, mandolin, cuatro, tabla, naal, djembe, congas, bongos, dumbek, timbales, tenor pan, berimbau, bansuri, manjeera, violin, cello and assorted percussion.
